Job description:

The vessel’s Master reported that on Stb anchor the upper shackle pin moves out. We sent technician on board on 4th May for checking at Tianjin port. We checked the STB side anchor swivel chains & found the swivel pin loosened. And the conical pin loosened too. We planed to go back the ship on her next call to Tianjin on 19th May 2012.

 

Story of the job:

The ship manager wanted the welding job for immobility of the pin. But the shackle had been welded already long time ago. It could not be welded again. The only solution was to replace the swivel shackle. But the problem was: “the swivel shackle was European type which was not available in China market.” We planed to supply a new fabricated swivel shackle with a new kent shackle to replace the old one on board. But the ship manager decided to send us a swivel shackle for saving the cost. After we got the swivel shackle, we found it was not the original type and it was a 2nd hand swivel shackle which could not match our new kent shackle. Please see the pictures on right hand. We had to do a lot of cutting job to modify the 2 shackles. After the installation on board, everything was OK and we finished the job on 20th May 2012.
